Late 18th century oval amethyst and ruby collet bracelet, close set in silver and gold, circa 1780-1800
This really very unusual combination of rubies and amethyst is not one I have seen before. A modern gemmologist may well refer to the rubies as pink sapphires as they are certainly more pink than red but such a concept did not exist in the Georgian period.
Mounting in excellent condition, the foiling to some of the amethysts has deteriorated but, in my opinion, this shows the bracelet’s age and adds to it’s charm.
Approximately 17cm long (6 3/4”), largest amethyst 19x14mm in the mount
